Our Story

How it all started…

July 3rd, 2022:

Alex(andra), born on Curaçao, living for almost 6 years in Maastricht as a final year medical student visiting Damascus Road International Church (DRIC) as any other Sunday.

The same weekend, Simon, born in Germany, visits Maastricht for the first time as he has to decide whether he wants to stay in Mannheim for his Masters or go to Maastricht instead. Through a contact from Students for Christ (SfC), he gets in touch with Matt, the pastor of DRIC. He can stay with Matt´s family over the weekend & also joins church on Sunday, July 3rd, 2022. When Simon & Alex saw each other on that day little did they know what the next few years were holding for them.

September 2022:

Simon decides to do his Masters in Maastricht. Right from the start, he joins DRIC on Sundays and Wednesday´s for DRUM (Damascus Road University Ministry). Eventually Simon & Alex end up in the same Bible study, which means that from now on they see each other three times a week. During the weeks to come the small talk after church or DRUM turns into more in depths conversations.

November 4th – 6th 2022: Break Away Weekend

Every year in autumn, DRUM organizes a weekend away filled with Bible studies, workshops, worship, food & games. In the evenings, Simon & Alex spent lots of time continuing their conversations & eventually they agree to meet the week after for a dinner at Tasty Thai in Maastricht.
